Manville Democratic Club Statement on Chauvin Verdict

Manville -- Eleven months ago, the world watched in horror the murder of George Floyd at the hands of law enforcement. For 9 minutes and 29 seconds we held our breath in horror as Mr. Floyd breathed his last.

In light of overwhelming evidence, the jury rendered their verdict today. Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all charges. We applaud the professionals and members of the community who prosecuted, testified, and deliberated during this heart-wrenching case.

Since May 25, 2020, a total of 108 Black men and boys have been killed by Police in the United States¹. We must do better. We must move past the division and racism that plays out each day. As we move forward, we must have empathy and accountability to one another. Today was the first step.
